Luke 6.
47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like:
48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.
Jesus is Life. He comes to give authority and power to our lives.
A person who continually stands on the Word and makes that a treasure, will be like a well-built house.
Brethren, there must be a way to keep the Word. We need to secure it within us, because it represents authority, power.
The word we receive must be a treasure for us. And it’s from this moment on that even if the torrent/storm rises up against us; this Word will be able to guide us, show us how to behave, keep us on the Rock.
It’s only when God’s word takes root in us that we’re not shaken in the face of difficulties. Indeed, the Life that is in this Word will enter us to give us its nature.
Jesus is the Word, He is the Life. And it is through this Life that all things were created.
So, whatever the situation, the Life within us already knows.
We won’t need to run here and there to find solutions. The Word will be our path, our guide.
Consider this,
2 Kings 4.
14 So he said, “What then is to be done for her?” And Gehazi answered, “Actually, she has no son, and her husband is old.”
15 So he said, “Call her.” When he had called her, she stood in the doorway.
16 hen he said, “About this time next year you shall embrace a son.” And she said, “No, my lord. Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant!”
17 But the woman conceived, and bore a son when the appointed time had come, of which Elisha had told her.
18 And the child grew. Now it happened one day that he went out to his father, to the reapers.
19 And he said to his father, “My head, my head!” So he said to a servant, “Carry him to his mother.”
20 When he had taken him and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died.
21 And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, shut the door upon him, and went out.
22 Then she called to her husband, and said, “Please send me one of the young men and one of the donkeys, that I may run to the man of God and come back.”
23 So he said, “Why are you going to him today? It is neither the New Moon nor the Sabbath.” And she said, “It is well.”
24 Then she saddled a donkey, and said to her servant, “Drive, and go forward; do not slacken the pace for me unless I tell you.”
It was the Lord Himself, through His servant, who said to this woman, I am going to give you a child.
In the same way that Jesus said to his disciples in Mark 4:35, “Let’s go over to the other side. And on the way, there was the torrent.
Here too in the case of this Sunamite woman, who after she received a child from God without even asking for it, a problem arose.
That’s why, when she had a problem, she turned directly to the Lord.
24 Then she saddled a donkey, and said to her servant, “Drive, and go forward; do not slacken the pace for me unless I tell you.”
This Sunanite went straight to the servant of God. She didn’t talk to anyone else, not even her husband, friends or family. For their way of seeing things could be different from God’s. She went into God’s presence without turning from left to right.
She rested on God alone, her Rock.
These days, we don’t take enough time to present situations to the Lord.
We look for answers from all sides; we call people from left to right.
When we’re rooted in the Word, in the way this woman behaved, that’s how we should do it. And this, whatever the problem: financial, relational, an ailing parent, …
Beloved, you simply have to present the situation to the Lord. He created us, He is the light, He will lead us and show us what to do.
Whatever the situation, we must consult the Lord, who is the Creator and Redeemer of our lives.
But when the Word is not in us, we will be panicked, shaken, scattered without being able to pull ourselves together.
That’s not how this Sunamite woman, who had learned to put the Word into her, acted.
The problem is that we are often too busy to take the time to meditate on the Word so that we can keep it within us.
But it is in the Word that there is life and knowledge.
If we don’t receive and keep this Word, how can we face adversity?
And it’s important to note that we must have the Word in our hearts, not our heads. It’s in the head that the enemy sends his thoughts, so the Word must be rooted in the heart, so that we can reject every evil thought.
Remember when Christ’s disciples were seized and thrown into prison?
They began to praise the Lord (Acts 16:25). Why? Because they didn’t see prison as a problem, but as an opportunity to proclaim the Lord wherever they found themselves. They worshipped the Lord and the miracle happened.
This is what the Lord wants us to do too.
Let’s root ourselves in the Word, and then nothing will shake us. Let’s position our hearts so that God glorifies Himself in our lives.
IN THE NAME OF JESUS, Let Us Pray… →
Lord, I belong to you.
May Your word be engraved in my heart.
May my heart be turned to You.
Help me to be attentive to Your Word.
Help me to know how to turn to You alone.
You are my Rock.
May everything in me that fights your word be destroyed.
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
