Apostle Billey.

Genesis 2.

8 The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.

God created man perfect.

He was opulent, lacking nothing. All that is good, God has put in him, in addition to the presence of God.

This is how God put man in a garden called the Garden of Eden.

Genesis 2.

9 The Lord God caused all kinds of trees to grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food—and in the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

How many groups of trees were there?

In the Garden of Eden, there were three kinds of trees:

1/ Trees to nourish the body

2/ The tree of life

3/ The tree of the knowledge of good and evil

The first group of trees is physical. The fruits of these trees, such as oranges, for example, strengthen the body, but there is no life in them.

The other two types of tree are the tree of life of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil are spiritual.

The word tree at this level is a metaphor. For example, when we talk about a family tree, it’s not a physical tree.

So when we speak of the tree of life, it’s like evoking the source of life.

Is there a tree in this world whose life can be consumed?

No.

Adam and Eve always had to be in touch with life. Because they had a progressive life.

The tree of life is the Word.

And the third kind of tree is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, which is the tree of the choice of independence. The tree of free choice, the choice to become independent or not.

Genesis 2.

15 Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.

16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat;

17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

This means that Adam and Eve had abundant access to the tree of life, to the word of God.

The tree of the knowledge of good and evil is still there. It’s spiritual.

What does this tree actually represent?

2 Corinthians 11.3 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ.

1 John 2.16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.

Beloved, what is the tree we eat on earth that brings death?

This is sin. It’s a tree in spirit.

And this tree is everywhere these days. These are the consequences of Adam’s fall.

To choose the tree of the knowledge of good and evil is to choose good or evil for oneself.

In everything there is good and evil, and it was Adam’s fall that caused this.

Anything that is good can be used for evil.

For example, the microphone is a good thing, I use it to amplify my voice, but one person can use it to hit another.

Or, there’s life and death in the power of language. In the same way, you can have a friend and everything goes well, but sometimes things can go wrong and become bitter. Or a car can be good for us at first, but then become bad. A pet, such as a dog, can be gentle but at the same time can bite someone.

Genesis 3.

6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

Adam and Eve’s nature was corrupted because they accepted the word of the serpent, i.e. they ate the word of the devil.

So God exhorts us to live in the Spirit, for the Word is Spirit and life[John 6:63].

God sent His Son so that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

By receiving the Word, we are eating from the tree of life.

Suppose a married man meets a beautiful woman. And that she’s trying to seduce him.

The moment he lets himself be drawn to anything she has to offer, she’ll enter him. Even a little desire, the fact of admiring it in any way, is already the point of connection.

And this without even needing to exchange telephone numbers or anything else.

When the person asks for the phone number, these are the physical details, but spiritually, the action is already over.

Beloved, what should we do when we find ourselves in this situation?

You must ask for forgiveness and immediately destroy the evil you see in yourself.

We must refuse to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, but rather eat from the tree of life.

Genesis 3.

22 Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever.

Man therefore chose to be independent of God by eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

If he ate from the tree of life again, he would live in evil for eternity. And that would have been the end of it.

Having thus taken his freedom, man was driven from God’s presence.

23 therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken.

24 So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life

Today, access to the Tree of Life is subject to certain conditions. Adam sinned and was deprived of the tree of life.

So God decided to redeem mankind. And to achieve this, two things had to be done:

Sin must be erased, because being in sin no longer entitles a person to the tree of life.

Romans 5.12 Therefore, as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned,…

The second Adam, Jesus Christ, gave us life.

Romans 5.19 For as through one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so through one man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

Being a Christian is a blessing. To have access to the word of life is a grace.

Adam paid the price for the consequences of his sin, death entered him, his family was divided, there was war in his house. There was only sin. But where there is sin, there is no life.

But we have access to the tree of life, the Word. In the Word, there is life.

John the Baptist proclaimed in John 1.29: The next day he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.

Beloved, we must not play with the Word, it’s God’s DNA.

Some people go days without eating/meditating God’s word, but yet they can’t do that when it comes to physical food, oranges or whatever. They look after their bodies, and all the while the life in them perishes.

Beloved, the tree of life is accessible, it makes you strong, it makes you victorious, to keep the blessing. The Word is life.
