Apostle Billey
Matthieu 25
1 Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5 But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. 6 And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’
7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’
9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut.
11 “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us! 12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.
13 “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.
The Lord often spoke in parables. It is one of the Lord’s final teachings.
He used examples from everyday life so that we could understand.
Every Christian must do what needs to be done so as not to miss out on heaven, and to be ready when Jesus Christ returns.
In the Word of God, the number 10 is the number of election.
This parable is not just for women—it’s for everyone. Likewise, this message is not just for Christians but for all of humanity.
Here, when we speak of virgins, we are not referring to virgins in the physical sense, but to the righteous —those cleansed by the blood of Jesus. 2 Corinthians 5:21 [ He who knew no sin became sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in him.]
It’s as if the Lord had reset the counter in that person’s life.
Jesus is the Bridegroom, Ephesians 5:29–30, Revelation 19:7
This parable, then, is about Jesus and the Church.
The virgins = the Church, which has been chosen and justified.
The church must wait for Jesus, who is coming back.
This parable mentions two groups within the church: the wise and the foolish; five wise virgins and five foolish virgins.
To be crazy is to be foolish; it means missing opportunities, failing to seize them, and neglecting them.
When Jesus rose from the dead, some of his disciples did not believe in his resurrection. And in Luke 24:25… the Lord called them foolish and slow of understanding.
- “Foolish” means that they have everything: the opportunity to be on a high level, to be powerful, to be blessed, to be closer to God, to speak to Him, to praise Him, to worship Him… but they have neglected all of that.
- Wise people do the opposite. They acquire knowledge; they acquire light in order to put that light into practice, and in this way they can overcome the darkness.
For example, Jesus heals, so that is a truth we must accept and embrace. Then go to Jesus. That’s what wise people do.
But foolish people do nothing with the word of God that they hear. They struggle and go around in circles.
The wise men are aware of what Jesus told them. They know that Jesus is coming back.
The foolish, despite what Jesus tells them or has told them, are concerned only with their own affairs—going to work and putting in overtime. What Jesus says or has said means nothing to them. Their main goal is to make money. They do not seek to know God’s will for their lives. Their fridge is full of food; they feed their bodies but neglect their spirit.
Beloved, this world is full of foolish. But what do the wise do?
Wise Christians work toward their salvation. They walk in accordance with God’s will. They put the Word into practice.
Philippians 2:12
12 Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, work out your salvation with fear and trembling—not only as when I was with you, but even more so now that I am away;
Brother, Sister, you must train yourself to put the Word into practice, to discipline your mind and heart in prayer, in love, and in the manifestation of the Spirit’s works, to learn to control your thoughts by thinking good thoughts and cultivating a positive imagination…
Colossians 3
1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.
2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
The wise seek the things above: love, holiness, communion with God, peace, the power of God, light…
We need to have all these things on this earth.
The life of Jesus is within us. We are connected to Jesus. It is within us. Therefore, we must walk in the way of Jesus.
As a wise Christian, when you seek the things above and set your heart on them, even the things of this world will follow you effortlessly.
But those who are only looking for food and restaurants… aren’t being wise.
For example, on the way home from church, let’s learn not to rush to eat. Put that aside and learn to praise God first—even if it’s just for thirty minutes—before doing anything else. Your life belongs to Jesus.
Colossians 3:2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
Beloved, whenever you have time for yourself but not for God, that’s not good. This needs to be corrected.
Is a visa to heaven granted to a fool? No.
That is why God wants us to be wise.
Those who are called by the Lord devote their lives and their time to God.
Our thoughts should be on the Lord. When the Lord is your priority, then you are wise.
Colossians 3. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Your old life no longer exists.
When you look at yourself, you don’t see yourself as belonging to the people of this world, but rather as one of those in heaven. Although you are still in the world, your spirit is with God.
Yet the fools/foolish ones are not dead within; they live as if the earth belonged to them.
But the wise—heaven belongs to them, and they see themselves as missionaries, merely passing through this world. They don’t let the world’s worries get to them.
They fight for the Kingdom of God, they win souls, they pray for those who do not know how to pray, and they intercede for the sick. They get up in the morning to help those who are spiritually weak—those who have been unable to pray—in their prayer.
Matthieu 25
3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them
Why are they foolish?
They didn’t bring any extra oil. When there is no oil, the lights go out.
A lamp by itself cannot give off light.
You need the lamp + the oil = light.
If there is no light, how can we see the One who is coming?
- What is a lamp? This is the written Word.
Ps 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light on my path.
- What is oil? Here, oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. (It is also a symbol of healing.)
Ps 119:130 The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.
The Holy Spirit explains and reveals the Word. And when it enters the heart, it brings light and understanding. This revelation—that is what light is.
The revealed Word enables us to walk in God’s ways.
For example, you can read the Bible. Pray without ceasing. Then the Holy Spirit will shed light on this passage by explaining it to you, or through His servants. He might tell you this to explain the benefits: “Pray—you’ll be strong, and you’ll be talking to God.” And that is how you will defeat your enemy….
And as for you, when you go to pray, you will do so in accordance with the revelation you have received.
The revealed Word keeps us from sleeping, so that we do not miss the coming of the Lord.
The foolish virgins, when they took their lamps, did not take any oil with them;
What will that mean?
They read the Bible and listen to sermons, but they don’t act on what they hear, nor do they seek to understand it fully so they can put it into practice.
The Holy Spirit may wake them up in the middle of the night to pray, but they’ll say, “I’m tired; I have to get up at 5 a.m. to go to work.” And if I get up now, I might be late.
That’s foolish.
Beloved, when God calls you, it is so that you may be with Him.
The Holy Spirit brings fire into the life of a Christian.
When the Holy Spirit is present, the soul is motivated; it has endurance and courage.
There is no fear, nor discouragement. You can climb spiritual mountains.
When you receive the revealed Word, your life will be a life of achievement.
5 But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.
Her bridegroom was late.
So many people have heard so often that Jesus is coming that they no longer believe it; they no longer take it seriously. They fell asleep. They are busy with all sorts of things.
Jesus has not yet come because his Church is not yet ready.
The Lord is delaying His coming:
- So that we may prepare for His coming.
- So that we may fulfill His will
- So that the Gospel may be spread more widely to those who do not know It.
Let’s not take this as a sign of God’s weakness.
Unfortunately, the serpent made people believe they had plenty of time to prepare.
That’s a lie. [1 Thessalonians 5:4, 2 Peter 3:10, Luke 21:34, Revelation 16:16]
1 Thessalonians 5. 4
But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.
The Lord Jesus will come unexpectedly. We must sanctify ourselves for the Lord.
Matthieu 25
6 And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’
7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps.
8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’
9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut.
Let’s remember: the lamp is the Word of God. Oil is the manifestation of the Holy Spirit that reveals the Word. And this Word, revealed in the heart, becomes fire and light.
9 The wise men replied, “No; there wouldn’t be enough for us and for you…”
To buy is to take what you have and exchange it. For example, you take the money you have and give it to a salesperson in order to get something.
So there’s a spirit of sacrifice involved, because I’m giving up my money in order to get something. So I set aside time to commune with the Holy Spirit through prayer, meditation, and studying the Word… I give my time; I sacrifice myself before God…
That is how God will be filling me with His light, His fire, His Word…
You buy light along with time.
Continuously drawing near to God, making sacrifices, and making Him your priority—that is what makes you a child of God; the light will grow brighter. Because the Holy Spirit will work in the Christian, God’s anointing will be in your life. As well as His presence, His voice…
My dear, even your “bed” must be wondering why you bought it.
No sacrifice, no victory. There is no fight without a goal to achieve.
When God gives you a goal to achieve, you must rise up and fight.
God has set His mark on you. It’s time to get up and invest in your relationship with God.
Everything belongs to God. Everything you could possibly need is found in Him. Don’t look in the wrong place. Everything you’re looking for belongs to God.
That’s why the devil won’t let you pray.
David said, “I have never seen the righteous beg for bread…” The solution to everything you need is found in God.
Beloved, the wise person seeks God from an early age.
Let’s suppose a Christian shares his or her testimony. We will be edified, but he cannot bestow grace upon us. His testimony is meant to inspire us to follow his example.
Let us be women and men who put the Word into practice.
When Jesus is already at the door, it’s no longer time to fast and pray.
You have to have looked for Him before He arrives.
Beloved, the Lord is delaying His coming to give us time to seek Him.
Today, our goal shouldn’t be just to make money. Whatever you have, give thanks to God and focus on God.
You need to make God a part of your Christian life. Don’t miss heaven. Anyone who misses heaven is bound to end up in hell.
“It is those who do My Father’s will who will enter the Kingdom of God,” said the Lord.
When you come back from church and even practice while you’re still in the parking lot.
Learn to destroy and reject the serpent’s suggestions. Wake up, stop sleeping. Put the Word into practice.
IN THE NAME OF JESUS, let us pray… →
Lord, forgive me for neglecting Your Word.
Forgive me, Lord, for I am often foolish.
Lord, help me, because sometimes I’m not wise.
I reject every voice of the serpent in the name of Jesus.
Holy Spirit, help me to be wise.
Teach me to walk according to God’s word.
I need You.
May the revelation of Your Word enlighten my spirit and my soul.
I belong to Jesus; the blood of Jesus is upon me.
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
