Let us meet the Bread of Life

‘The Fall’

Genesis 3.

7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

Their eyes opened. In other words, they became aware of reality; they realized their new condition of mortality, their state of destitution.

They realized what they had lost. They died; they became darkness. They no longer felt any attraction to the things of God.

They were stripped of the truth that was within them (the word of God).

And that is how they lost their strength, their values, their authority, their power, their glory… They were robbed.

These are direct consequences of the fall.

This is the original sin; this is how it all began.

They were in glory, in power. But they have strayed from their relationship with God.

How might the CEO of a large company feel when he is fired ? Naked.

That is how Adam and Eve realized they had lost something they no longer had.

That’s the fall.

There is this testimony of a brother who was hiding in order to commit fornication.

One day, he got sick. He started to have a fever and headaches. And the verdict was fatal.

It is said that his eyes were then opened to the consequences of fornication.

He died; his eyes opened, just like Adam and Eve’s.

When we listen to the serpent’s voice, we gradually make our way into the Valley of Death. For there will be sorrow upon sorrow.

Genesis 3.

7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

They made belts out of them = They made themselves coverings..

The English NKJV version reads “…made themselves coverings”

“They made themselves coverings” means: they made themselves blankets.

“Cover-ups” are a set of tactics people use to justify their wrongdoings.

These are the strategies that humans use to mask their downfall and their vulnerability, in order to conceal their state of weakness and mortality.

Any excuse we give to justify ourselves is just a cover-up. All kinds of excuses.

Someone who arrives late might say, for example, that it’s because of traffic.

Someone who goes to sleep without praying might say, “I got home late from work; I was really tired.”

Someone who has failed to do something might blame their parents, their neighbor, or someone else for their failures…

Many people try to blame others for the situations they find themselves in.

When a high-ranking officer or senior official is exposed, what does he do to cover his tracks? He’s starting to defend himself in the press and make accusations.

All of these behaviors are just cover-ups.

But none of this stands before God.

Adam and Eve tried to justify their disgrace.

Justifying one’s sin is like hiding a snake in one’s house: it means making it a partner.

We must avoid sin at all costs, because it robs us of our potential and much more. For example, someone who used to be intelligent can no longer do anything right because he’s rejected.

We must not try to justify sin or blame others for our failures: parents, spouses, friends, neighbors, pastors…

But we must run to God, lay ourselves bare, and repent.

IN THE NAME OF JESUS, let us pray… →

Lord, I am naked.

I lost everything because of sin.

I gave the snake the chance to steal my glory.

Lord Jesus, forgive me and lift me up.

I've decided to stop doing what is wrong in Your eyes.

But rather, to submit myself to You.

I declare that my life belongs to you.

In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Amen.
