Let us meet the Bread of Life

‘The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil’ _ No. 3

Genesis 3

4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.

5 But God knows that on the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.

6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

Sin is self-destruction.

It’s as if the snake were giving you a rope to hang yourself with or a knife to kill yourself with.

For example, the Lord says that sexual relations should only take place within the context of a covenant—marriage.

But the devil comes along and shows you a woman or a man, tempting you to approach that person and saying, “Go ahead and enjoy yourself—there’s nothing wrong with that…”

That is how a person becomes a slave to sin.

That’s exactly what he did to Eve: “Eat, and you won’t die.”

The serpent, Satan, who spoke to Eve, is the same one who spoke to Jesus [Luke 4], to Peter [Matthew 16], and to many others.

He does everything he can to make man constantly oppose God. It seeks to destroy man.

The same method he used with Eve and Adam is the one he uses with everyone.

From the moment Eve listened to and accepted the devil’s words, lust entered her heart.

When a Christian begins to think evil, he is telling the serpent that he has accepted its proposal.

To think about or dwell on an evil means that the seed has already taken root within the person.

And by dint of thinking about it, the Christian will be watering this bad seed within himself. Just as a gardener waters a seed planted in a garden practically every day.

How does the devil manage to make a man ejaculate the semen deposited inside him?

When you think about or imagine this evil, it’s like watering it, and that will lead to sin. [James 1:14–15]

For example, if a man starts thinking about an old girlfriend, the more he thinks about her, the more desire will grow in his heart and he’ll try to meet her.

Similarly, when someone has offended you, if you keep thinking about it, the more you think about it, the more your anger will grow.

Or, how does fashion evolve? Through the lust of the eyes.

Someone sees this thing, and what they saw stays in their memory. And once he has the money, he’ll go buy it.

Thoughts become the place where desire is nurtured and cultivated.

And so, after heeding the serpent’s words, Eve began to covet what the serpent had told her: [You will be like God…].

The devil connects with man through sin.

To accept sin is to dig your own grave. Because then the devil will be able to knock you out with his gun and throw you into the grave he dug.

We must see sin for what it truly is: it is rot, it is cancer—it destroys everything completely.

That’s how Adam got tricked. He sinned, and he died. He’s lost everything!

Yet he was filled with knowledge, wisdom, strength, grace, and the presence of God…

I must rid myself of all sin through this process. For whoever sins is the one who dies.

As Christians, let us not dwell on evil.

By deciding to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, it is as if one had taken the broad path that leads to eternal death.

IN THE NAME OF JESUS, let us pray… →

Lord Jesus, I belong to You.

May every thought within me that connects me to the serpent smust be displayed and destroyed.

May any sin hidden in my desires or in my home… be exposed by Your light.

May the root of sin against my life be destroyed.

Lord Jesus, I surrender myself to You and submit to You.

In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Amen.
